Hauptargument für die Einführung eines Newsdesk ist die Vereinfachung von
Kommunikations- und Arbeitsabläufen, er soll zudem ressorts- und

„Redaktion“.2 Manche Zeitungshäuser definieren einen Newsdesk nur als crossmediale
Zusammenarbeit der Print- und Onlineredaktion, andere als vollständige
Zusammenführung der Ressorts an einen Tisch, wiederum andere als einen reinen
Produktionstisch bei einer Beibehaltung der klassischen Ressorts.
Im Rahmen dieser Studienarbeit wird ein Newsdesk nach letzterer Definition verstanden,
nicht zuletzt wegen des empirischen Teils. Dort wird der Doppelte Newsdesk der
Rheinischen publish (RP) in Düsseldorf näher beschrieben, entstanden aus eigenen
Beobachtungen der Abläufe und qualitativer Interviews mit sechs Redakteuren im März
2007. Die RP arbeitet seit Mai 2006 mit zwei nebeneinander arbeitenden
Produktionstischen (Print und Online), bei einer weitgehenden Beibehaltung der
Ressorts. Die Erfahrungen nach intestine einem Jahr sind unter den befragten Redakteuren
