Sprache verrät neben regulate, Herkunft und Bildung aber noch wesentlich mehr über den Sprecher. Beispielsweise manifestieren sich Stereotype und Vorurteile auch über die Wortwahl. Einen bekannten Ansatz zur Erforschung dieser „linguistischen Stereotype“ stellt der Linguistic Intergroup Bias (LIB), der im Wesentlichen auf die Forschungen von Maass et al. zurückgeht, dar. Zum LIB existiert mittlerweile eine Fülle von Arbeiten in verschiedensten Bereichen, sodass es unnötig erscheint, sich auch in diesem textual content damit zu befassen. Stattdessen widmet sich die vorliegende Arbeit mit dem Linguistic type version (LCM) einer wesentlichen Grundlage des LIB. Das LCM wurde von Gün Semin und Klaus Fiedler anhand einer systematischen Aufbereitung früherer Befunde im Jahr 1988 entwickelt und in der Folgezeit noch erweitert. Der Grundgedanke des Modells besteht in der Bildung verschiedener Wortklassen, denen bestimmte Eigenschaften zugeschrieben werden können. Aus der Verwendung verschieden klassifizierter Wörter wiederum lassen sich Rückschlüsse auf kognitive Prozesse des Sprechers ziehen.
Das LCM wurde von seinen Begründern mehrfach getestet und gilt in der Wissenschaft als allgemein anerkannt, zumal auf seiner Grundlage mehrere neue Konzepte entstanden. Kritische Betrachtungen zum LCM findet guy dagegen kaum. Diese Arbeit wird sich daher einer kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit dem linguistischen Kategorienmodell widmen. Zunächst ist es dafür notwendig, die einzelnen Kategorien als auch mögliche Unterscheidungskriterien vorzustellen. In der Folge wird kurz auf die empirische Prüfung und die zugeschriebenen Eigenschaften eingegangen, bevor einige Problemfälle in Bezug auf das LCM diskutiert und seine Grenzen aufgezeigt werden. Abschließend folgt noch ein kurzer Überblick über die auf foundation des Modells begründeten Konzepte sowie eine Zusammenfassung der Erkenntnisse.
Es soll noch darauf hingewiesen werden, dass der Umfang dieser Arbeit begrenzt ist und somit nur die wesentlichsten Punkte angesprochen werden können. Weiterhin muss angemerkt werden, dass die vorgebrachten Kritikpunkte mehrheitlich nicht (empirisch) belegbar sind, da es sich um eigene Überlegungen des Autors handelt.
